유럽 알프스 산맥(The Alps)에 있는 산의 이름으로

같은 봉우리를 국가에 따라 이렇게 다르게 부른다.

좌편이 동벽(East Face)이고 우측이 북벽(North Face)이다.

이 북벽은 유럽의 3대 북벽 가운데 하나이다.

그 가운데의 능선을 따라서 오르는 것이 일반적인 등반루트이다.

회른리 능선(Ho"rnli Ridge)라고 부른다.





세계에서 3대 아름다운 봉우리 가운데 하나로 불리우는

스위스의 마터호른(Matterhorn, 4478미터) 봉우리를 등반하려던

한국인 등산가 3명 가운데 1명이 3900미터 쯤 되는 위치에서 하강을 하려다가

떨어져서 사망하였고 약 200미터 가량 아래쪽에서 산악구조대가 시신을 회수했다. 

이것은 지난 달 7월 15일의 일이었다.


이것이 어떻게 8월 7일자 중앙일보 인터넷版 뉴스(News)에 떴는지 알 수가 없다.

기사내용도 너무 엉성해서 비슷한 또 다른 사고가 난 줄로 알았다. 같은 것이쟈녀.

알프스에서 등반을 할 때는 "베이스캠프"라는 것이 없다.

이들의 경우 북동릉 등반코스 초입에 있는 회른리 산장(Ho"rnli Hu"tte)에 묶었었다. 

다음 날 올라갈 길을 정찰나갔다가 날씨의 급변으로 하산을 못하고

능선에서 밤을 지새고 다음날 산장으로 하산을 하려다가 하강중에 사고가 난 것이었다.



스위스와 이딸리아의 국경에 위치한 마터호른(Matterhorn)은 이딸리아에서는 체르비노(Cervino)라고 불리고

프랑스에서는 쎄르방(Cervin)이라고 불린다.

1867년 영국인 등산가 에드워드 윔퍼(Edward Whymper)가 프랑스人 가이드 미쉘 크로(Michel Croz),

스위스人 가이드 피터 타우콸더(Peter Taugwalder)등과 함께 일행 7명이 초등정에 성공하였으나

하산중의 사고로 크로를 포함 윔퍼의 영국인 동료 3명이 추락하여 사망하였다.

그 이후로 현재까지 약 500여명의 등산가가 사망하였다.


지난 6월에도 영국인 클라이머가 낙석에 맞아 사망을 한 적이 있어

올 씨즌에 6명이 이 산을 오르내리다가 사망하였다는 보고이고

이로 인하여 일부 언론에서는 등산인들의 안전을 위하여 마터호른 등반을 금지시켜야 한다고 주장했으나

이 산이 위치한 스위스의 쩨르맛(Zermatt)에서는 "터무니없는 발상"이라고 반박을 하고

이 문제는 오직 쩨르맛 자치구(Commune of Zermatt)만이 결정할 문제라고 일소에 부쳤다고 한다.

어딘가 비슷한 발상이 아닌가?

에베레스트의 등반을 강력히 규제(또는 금지)해야 된다는 것과.

South Korean climber dies on Switzerland's Matterhorn

A climber from South Korea died on Monday after hitting bad weather on the iconic Matterhorn mountain.

The climber was one of three from South Korea who arrived at the Ho"rnlihutte above Zermatt on Sunday, Valais cantonal police said in a statement.

The group were planning to tackle the 4,478-metre summit on Monday but made a reconnaissance trip along the exposed Hornligrat ridge route on Sunday afternoon.

However, they struck bad weather during the sortie and were forced to spend the night on the mountain at an altitude of 3,900 metres.

At around 2pm on Monday afternoon, the group decided to move to a new location but one of the climbers fell while abseiling.

His body was later recovered by rescue services.

The two other climbers were uninjured.

An official investigation into the accident is now being carried. Formal identification of the body has not been carried out.

The Matterhorn ascent requires sure-footedness and excellent fitness. Over 500 people are estimated to have died while ascending or descending the mountain. Use of a guide is very highly recommended.

Am Montag, 15. Juli 2019 ereignete sich am Matterhorn ein Bergunfall. Eine Person kam dabei ums Lebens.

Am Sonntag, 14. Juli 2019 trafen drei sudkoreanische Alpinisten bei der ≪Hornlihutte≫ ein. Der Aufstieg zum Gipfel ware fur den folgenden Tag geplant gewesen. Zur Rekognoszierung kletterten die Bergsteiger noch am Sonntagnachmittag dem ≪Hornligrat≫ entlang hoch. Dabei gerieten sie in eine Schlechtwetterzone und mussten die Nacht im Freien auf einer Hohe von ca. 3’900 m. u. Meer verbringen.

Am Montag, 15. Juli 2019 gegen 14:00 Uhr entschlossen sich die Alpinisten dazu, einen neuen Standort zu beziehen. Beim Abseilen sturzte einer der Alpinisten aus derzeit ungeklarten Grunden ab.

Die Einsatzkrafte der Bergrettung Zermatt und der Air-Zermatt konnten den Alpinisten nur noch tot aus der Ostwand bergen. Seine beiden Begleiter blieben unverletzt und konnten evakuiert werden.

Die formelle Identifizierung des Verstorbenen ist gegenwartig im Gange. Die Staatsanwaltschaft hat eine Untersuchung eingeleitet.

Eingesetzte Mittel: Kantonspolizei ? Kantonale Walliser Rettungsorganisation ? Bergrettung Zermatt ? Air Zermatt.

아름답다는 것이 매우 주관적이기 때문에 물론 다른 의견들이 무수히 많다.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 제 눈이 안경이기 때문에.

아래의 3개 봉우리를 "세계 3대 미봉"이라고 할때가 있었다.


뻬루 안데스에 있는 알빠마요峰(Alpamayo, 5947m)

전면은 북서벽(NW Face), 우측이 남서벽(SW Face)이다.


히말라야 산맥의 마차푸차레峰(Machapuchare, 6993m)

이 산은 네팔 현지 부족들이 신성시하는 산으로 등산이 금지되어 있다.
