   Amtrak's Next-Generation of

                High-Speed Rail

          [US] Take a look inside:

The new Acela high speed trains for Amtrak

Written by  m Avelia

Alstom is currently completing the first prototype high-speed trains from Amtrak, which are being built at its Hornell and Rochester facilities in New York. Amtrak states that the first prototypes will be ready later this year, and the first trains will enter service in 2021.

The US operator has now released the interior shots of its new trains. All are available on Amtrak’s blog. Some outtakes:

Alstom is building 28 new high-speed trains, which will run on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) between Boston and Washington D.C. Amtrak and Alstom also signed a long-term contract under which Alstom will provide Amtrak with long-term technical support and supply spare components and parts for the maintenance of the new trainsets. Together, these contracts are worth €1.8 billion ($2 billion).

At Amtrak we know the future of the Northeast Corridor depends on the investments we make today, which is why we are excited to announce the upcoming arrival of the next-generation of high-speed rail. The new trainsets will replace the current Acela Express equipment and begin service in 2021. For this project, we are pleased to be partnering with Alstom, a leading global provider of innovative systems and equipment in the railway sector. Alstom will be building these new trainsets in New York State, with 95% of the trainset’s components being made in America, and parts coming from 350 suppliers in 30 U.S. states.

Why The US Has No High-Speed Rail

Why The US Has No High-Speed Rail

May 8, 2019

China has the world’s fastest and largest high-speed rail network ? more than 19,000 miles, the vast majority of which was built in the past decade. Japan’s bullet trains can reach nearly 200 miles per hour and date to the 1960s. They have moved more than 9 billion people without a single passenger causality. casualty France began service of the high-speed TGV train in 1981 and the rest of Europe quickly followed. But the U.S. has no true high-speed trains, aside from sections of Amtrak’s Acela line in the Northeast Corridor. The Acela can reach 150 mph for only 34 miles of its 457-mile span. Its average speed between New York and Boston is about 65 mph. California’s high-speed rail system is under construction, but whether it will ever get completed as intended is uncertain.

Top 10 Fastest High Speed Trains of the Future

Top 10 Fastest High Speed Trains in the World 2019 High-speed rail networks may be a relatively new phenomenon, but for 20 countries worldwide they already form the backbone of the transport network. Although first introduced in Japan, high-speed rail was truly established in Europe during the 80s and 90s. Recently, technological advancements have pushed Asian countries up the ranks with regard to population served by the high-speed network, price per kilometer as well as operating and top speeds. Home to a famously extensive rail network, the infrastructural changes associated with switching from normal to high-speed rail have proven particularly complex in Europe. For example, the high-speed network in the United Kingdom is expected to remain under construction until 2026, which is perhaps what happens when your railway lines date back to 1825. Similarly, despite persistent interest and rumors involving California and the Eastern seaboard, the United States has yet to embrace high-speed train technology. This ranking exclusively compares trains meeting the official high-speed criteria. Now that the wheels are in motion nothing can slow down the high-speed revolution.
