Dear Dr. Bach,
The American network NBC has apologized after one of its analysts drew anger for a comment during coverage of the Pyeongchang Olympics that seemed to gloss over South Korea’s painful history with Japan, its former colonial master. The analyst, Joshua Cooper Ramo, made the comment while appearing with Katie Couric and Mike Tirico during the opening ceremony on Friday. Noting that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan was in attendance, Mr. Ramo described Japan as “a country which occupied Korea from 1910 to 1945, but every Korean will tell you that Japan is a cultural, technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation.”
Nobody makes such an unforgivable mistake at Olympics. NBC reviewed Ramo's script earlier and allowed this incident to happen. "Apology" is not the right way to go since it is NBC habits broadcasting Olympics in Korea to hurt Koreans. NBC did the same thing in 1988 summer Olympic Games in Seoul. Bryant Gumbel was sweating to defuse their bad boxing TV coverage that hurt Koreans. It is like South Korean media is saying "About 50 years ago, at 133 miles north from PyeongChang, 83 men USS Pueblo crews were captured by N. Korean and the crews expressed their appreciation and thanked N. Koreans for educating them N. Korean history and allowing to write the book called "Act of War" regardless what 83 American Navy servicemen had to go through with N. Koreans.
You don't say "How bad the bride was when she was single on her wedding day at the wedding reception party".
To many people watching the Opening ceremony, Ramos did represent NBC and the U.S.A.
Please advise American ambassador in Korea to apologize if there is one.
No more NBC for Olympics. People who love Olympic Games deserve better TV stations. Please consider changing TV coverage to ABC, CBS, CNN,and Fox News. Monopoly TV coverage is not fair and does not fit in Olympic spirit. What Ramo said was well calculated, politic-motivated, and sick comments nobody deserves.
